I wanted to let you guys know that you’re now able to register a username and password for davideagle.net. Doing so is the only way to comment, and may eventually give you access to User Icons. Lame? Yes. Useful? Probably not.
I hope that doesn’t inconvenience anyone, but I get at least 5 comment spams in moderation every few hours, and uh…I’m really lazy about stuff like that, so I need to nip it in the bud before it turns into 200,000.
I do definitely welcome and appreciate constructive input. Specifically, stuff you hate or stuff you’d like to see more of.
Thanks for stopping by.
a few things:
1. spammers can register, on a few (wordpress) blogs I have they do so.
2. you don’t have a register link visible (hint - http://davideagle.net/wp-login.php)
3. you can just get the latest k2 theme and you’ll be using “gravatars” horrah! cross-site avatars based on email address!
@revoked - Yah, I IM’d him like a bazillion ways he can have the icons there (plugins, etc). He says, who would want to sign up for gravatar? hehe
Dave - what about askimet? Activate that plugin (should be automatically on in this version of WP I think) - that helps a bunch.
Instead of forcing registration, maybe just make it an option? The more open, the more convo, the more convo, the more content, the more people coming, links pointing to you…
It’s SEO goodness and happiness for your dreams
Alright alright. I’m going to give Askimet a try. It’s funny, spammers actually still spam when Registration is required. I guess that option in WP only takes the form off of the page, but you can still hit the form if you know the URL. Hit it, and use it. Poor site design? I think so.
